FIREFIGHTERS spent two hours tackling a severe blaze at a commercial garage in Brighouse in the early hours today.

The fire broke out at 2am at the ERF Garage, in Sherwood Road.

It destroyed the complex which is undergoing refurbishment.

Lorries being repaired are usually stored on the premises but none were there because of the work going on there.

Sub-officer Mick Holbrook of Brighouse fire, said the cause was unknown.

A fire investigation would start today.

Nine fire crews were on site at the height of the blaze.

Nine pumps were employed along with the hydraulic platform.

Mr Holbrook added: "It was quite a busy industrial garage used by lorries.

"Flames were coming out of the windows of the two-storey office block when we arrived.

"Firefighters were there for two hours but the garage was gutted.

"I had concerns that it may spread to other building but we managed to contain the fire. No-one was injured."

It is thought that a passer-by spotted the blaze and contacted the fire service.
