AN architect is in the running for an award for his garage.

Mark Lee, who lives at The Round House at the corner of High Lane and Hall Bower Lane at Hall Bower, has been nominated for a White Rose Awards for Design Excellence 2008.

The building was designed by Mr Lee and his company, One 17, of Lockwood.

It is the first to be shortlisted for the awards by the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Mr Lee’s house is a Victorian water tank converted into a family home.

The garage, made of natural stone and with a matching roof, blends seamlessly with The Round House.

Mr Lee said: “We put a lot of thought into the design of the garage.

“Nothing was standard about the house and neither was the garage.”

The winners will be announced at the RIBA Yorkshire Awards Dinner at Leeds Town Hall on Friday, October 24.
