A GARDEN centre is in the running to be named the best in the country.
Whiteleys Garden Centre of Mirfield is hoping to land the title after being named one one of the eight regional finalists for the Best Garden Centre of the Year 2005 Award.
The winner will be revealed in January.
The business reached the final after winning the north-east final of the contest run by the Garden Centre Association.
On top of the accolade, Whiteleys has been selected as a finalist for Best Garden Retailer 2004 in the National Retail Awards 2004.
The winner will be announced in a ceremony at the Midland Hotel in Manchester today.
Dennis Whiteley, from the MIrfield business, said: "These awards are particularly valued as nominations come exclusively from customers."
