THOUSANDS of garden seats are being recalled by a supermarket because they are in danger of keeling over when used.

Asda pulled the folding wooden chairs from sale after receiving complaints from two customers.

Tests carried out for the store chain showed the seat's metal legs tended to buckle if the user wobbled about.

This made the slatted wooden chairs vulnerable to collapse, a spokesman said.

Asda - which has a store at Bradford Road, Huddersfield - pulled the £10 packs of two folding wooden chairs - which are made in China - from its stores last week.

It had already sold about 4,000 and is now urging customers to return them to their nearest stores.

Asda has offered customers a full refund plus an additional refund to those who also bought the matching table.

The spokesman said the chairs had already been tested to what is known as "camping" standard before they went on sale.

He said: "Although tested to a weight of 110 kilos, it is more a question of wobbling than how much you weigh and that's why we've taking the decision to recall these chairs. We apologise for any inconvenience."

The two customers who complained were not injured by the folding chairs, the spokesman added.
