GARDENING equipment seized from two drugs factories have been donated to Huddersfield schools.

Hinchliffe Mill, Netherthong, Hade Edge, Brockholes and Helme Junior and Infant schools were all given compost, plant pots and growing troughs that the police had taken from cannabis factories found in June.

Each school was given six bags of compost, 30 plant pots and two growing troughs to help them with their various gardening classes and projects.

Sgt Simon Haigh of the Valleys Neighbourhood Policing team, said: "When we raided the cannabis factories at the start of June, we recovered a large amount of gardening equipment that was still of use and didn’t need to be held for any forensics or other police work.

"This operation has been a good example of the NPT shutting down a criminal enterprise and being able to put something positive back into the community as a result.”
