AN NPower salesman tried to trick a family into changing their gas supply, it is claimed.
Mother-of-two Clare Preece, 26, from Lowerhouses, says a canvasser for the company tried to adjust her meter to cut the price of her gas.
Miss Preece says the salesman, in his mid-30s, cold-called at her house.
He said the pre-payment meter was charging 25p per unit, double the hourly rate. He then offered to alter the device to charge half the cost.
Clare, a British Gas customer, said the canvasser then made a sales pitch for her custom.
But when Miss Preece rang British Gas they told her she was already being charged at 12.5p a unit.
She said: “I was really annoyed. I think he was trying to trick me into changing to NPower. It’s dishonest and bang out of order.”
A spokesman for Npower said: “The sales adviser who called at Clare’s property is being investigated as a priority case.
“He will be re-trained to make sure this does not happen again.
“We were very concerned to hear about these allegations as we take this type of complaint very seriously. This matter will be fully investigated.
“We are extremely proud of our sales force, who all go through rigorous training.
“We operate a zero tolerance policy regarding any signs of misbehaviour discovered in any of our sales agents.”
