TWO men who were due to stand trial over a stabbing outside a Huddersfield nightclub have had the charge against them dismissed by a judge.

But both face sentencing next month along with six others after a fracas outside the former Mansion club in Beast Market.

Leigh Miller, 26, and 26-year-old Kelvin Pusey had been accused of wounding Birmingham man Adon Lynch with intent to do him grievous bodily harm during violence outside The Mansion nightspot on New Year’s Day last year.

But Judge Robert Bartfield dismissed the charge after prosecutor Heather Gilmore said the Crown was offering no further evidence against the men.

Mrs Gilmore explained that the decision had been reached after reviewing CCTV footage of the alleged attack.

Miller, of Brock Bank, Dalton, and Pusey, of Town Avenue, Bradley Mills, both pleaded guilty to a charge of violent disorder arising out of the disturbance that night.

They will now be sentenced along with six other men who have already admitted violent disorder in respect of a separate incident inside the nightclub.

Those six men had previously denied another wounding with intent charge relating to the stabbing of Ashton Lattibeaudiere inside the club.

The prosecution is expected to offer no evidence on that allegation after the violent disorder sentences have been passed. The sentence hearing for all eight defendants is due to take place in early February.

The nightclub – formerly Johnny’s club – was hosting a New Year’s Eve party titled Urban Lick that featured R&B, funk and dubstep music in different rooms when a fight broke out at about 2am.

The club was shut down days after the incidents.

Mansion nightclub, on Beast Market in Huddersfield town centre, was closed because of police concerns about serious disorder.

Six people were stabbed inside and outside the club in the early hours of New Year’s Day last year.

The two men most seriously injured were treated in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for several days for their wounds.
