A TALENTED young artist has made her mark at school by designing its new logo.

Year six pupil Georgia Edwards is the winner of a competition to design a new logo for the new Greetland Academy

It became the first primary school in Yorkshire to be awarded academy status.

The former Greetland Primary School began life as an academy school from January this year.

Georgia’s design appears alongside the school’s new motto, Reaching Great Heights.

The logo competition was organised by the school’s Design Club, which is run by principal Amanda Bennett.

Georgia Edwards and fellow finalist Fiona Hoyle were chosen from over 150 entries to work on mock-ups and final artwork for their designs with Leeds-based design agency, Definitive Creative.

Georgia, 10, said: “I am really pleased to have won the competition. I based my design on a rocket and I am really excited to see how my design will look on our new school uniform.”

Runner up Fiona, also 10, said: “It was fantastic to meet a real design company.

“Through the weeks we have been proud to be part of the design club and we would do it again.”

Senior Designer at Definitive Creative, Paul Taylor, said: “This was a very inspiring and enjoyable project for us.

“We had lots of fun working with the children and I suspect there may be a couple of promising future graphic designers amongst the Greetland Academy Design Club!”
