A SCHOOL in Huddersfield has just introduced daily massages - but not for stressed-out teachers.

Ashbrow Infant and Nursery School at Sheepridge has brought in the 10-minute sessions.

And they're for the children, by the children!

Three members of staff have been trained by childcare and development group Surestart to teach the children the art of massage.

The children split into pairs and spend five minutes giving each other massages after their lunch break.

Head teacher Dora Plant said: "The key thing is to teach the children respect for each other."

Virtually every child in school takes part and the massages have full parental support. The teachers do not get involved at all.

"Research has shown that it has a very positive effect on learning and relationships and improves friendship groups. It also helps to stimulate the brain cells," added Mrs Plant.

"We have found out that some of the children ask their parents if they would like a massage when they get home!

"We are now doing some monitoring to see if there are any positive changes in behaviour of children as a result of the massages."
