HUDDERSFIELD ghost hunters are surveying the supernatural at a Mirfield pub.

UK Haunted - a team of mediums, photographers, historians, tarot readers and crystal readers - will visit the Three Nuns Inn at Leeds Road, Cooper Bridge, next Saturday.

They will investigate reports of ghostly goings-on at the pub.

Tales of loud banging noises in the night - which stop on command - are legend. And a ram's head, removed during renovation, launched poltergeist activity.

But once the skull was returned to its resting place the problems supposedly stopped.

The pub was built on the site of an earlier hostelry, dating from 1497.

Nuns from nearby Kirklees Priory took refuge there during Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s. The pub was renamed the Three Nuns in the 16th century.

The pub visit is the first in a series of local overnight vigils that UK Haunted is holding in the coming months.

The team has been an un- official club for some time, but in March it turned ghost hunting into a commercial venture. It charges the public to join its overnight vigils.

Nicola Froggett, co-founder and trainee medium and tarot reader, said: "We want the public to join us on investigations so they can see and experience what the team does.

"It adds credibility if unusual activity occurs."

For a small fee, visitors get food, accommodation, a tarot card reading, psychic tests, extrasensory perception tests and a group seance. People can also try dowsing or ouija board sessions.

There is a series of supernatural solo challenges.

UK Haunted use night vision cameras, electro- magnetic field devices, and dowsing rods.

Footage from the vigils will be compiled on a DVD.
