HUNDREDS of children created a giant mosaic to celebrate the union of a school and nursery.
Children at Dryclough Infant School took it in turns to add a piece to the colourful mosaic on show at the Crosland Moor school.
They joined tots from the Thornton Lodge Nursery to unveil the mosaic at a celebration day on Monday.
Dryclough head teacher Bernie Boryslawskyj said: “It was an absolutely brilliant day.
“We had hundreds of parents from our school and from the nursery, members of community groups and of course the children.
“There are already great relations between our school and the nursery, but we wanted to celebrate the link and bring everyone together.
“It is about working as a team and sharing ideas.
“Everyone really had a lovely day and it is something we will definitely do again.”
Toddlers and pupils took part in a series of craft classes to create the mosaic.
They also joined their parents at the fun-day on Monday and visited healthy eating stalls where they were able to make fruit or vegetable kebabs to take home.
Also present were community nurses, police and Sure Start staff.
Teacher Joanne Brown and teaching assistant Claire Brophy helped to organise the event. Artist Deborah Tracey from Artists in Primary Education worked with the children to create the mosaic.
