A12-YEAR-OLD girl who strung up a five-year- old boy from a tree in Dewsbury was due to be sentenced today.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty at an earlier court hearing to inflicting actual bodily harm.

Her victim was found wandering alone with red ligature-type marks around his neck and bruises on his body following the attack in a wood.

The girl also admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice as she tried to blame the assault on other local children.

At an earlier hearing, Dewsbury Youth Court was told how the boy, who was hung from a tree with a piece of string, escaped death by only seconds.

Eventually the girl confessed she was the only one responsible for the horrific attack near the Earlsheaton Medical Centre on May 31.

The case was adjourned until today for the completion of pre-sentence reports.

Magistrates granted the girl conditional bail and told her: "All options remained open." One of the main reasons for writing the reports was to determine if she was "a dangerous young person."

She was appearing for sentence at Dewsbury Youth Court.
