A TEENAGE girl was sexually assaulted on a train.

Now detectives from British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident involving the 15-year-old girl.

She told police she was molested by an elderly man on a train at Batley.

Det Con Gary Heseltine, investigating officer, said: “Around 3.55pm on Monday November 19, the victim, a 15-year-old girl from Dewsbury, was queuing up to leave the delayed 13.31 Huddersfield to Leeds service as it arrived into Batley railway station when she felt a man inappropriately touch her.

“The victim was extremely distressed, left the train and raised the alarm.”

Police have conducted several lines of enquiry into the incident, including viewing CCTV, and would now like to speak to anyone who may have been travelling on the busy train who may have witnessed the incident.

The man was described as white, in his 60s, with white, receding hair, a bald head and beer belly. He wore a blue shirt.

Det Con Heseltine said: “The incident has understandably left the victim feeling shocked and shaken.”
