A masked gang viciously attacked and robbed a man in front of his girlfriend near Greenhead Park.

One man held the woman back while two others beat her boyfriend up, kicking and punching him on the ground.

The attack happened at 11.05pm on Friday just outside the park.

The 26-year-old victim and his girlfriend were walking behind the park in Park Drive South when they were set upon.

One of the three-strong gang – all wearing hoods and face coverings – grabbed the man by the neck.

Another held the woman while the other two punched the victim to the ground before searching his pockets.

The terrified woman screamed for help and the gang stopped the attack, calmly walking off along Park Drive South towards the town centre.

After they had gone the victim realised some of his possessions were missing. He found his wallet, glasses and keys nearby but £20 had been stolen.

The victim was badly shaken and received cuts to his cheek and hand and grazes to his elbows.

The suspects were described as Asian, of average height and build, and were wearing dark hooded tops or tracksuits and had their faces covered.

Det Con Kris Roberts, of Kirklees District CID, said: “This was clearly a frightening experience for the victim and his girlfriend and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information that could assist the investigation.”
