SCHOOLGIRLS showed they could bend it like Beckham when they took part in a football tournament.

Five primary schools took part in the seven-a-side tournament, run by a scheme to help promote girls’ football.

Sports development officers have been promoting the sport in the junior schools that took part, which were Christ Church Woodhouse School in Deighton, Fixby, Birkby, Ashbrow and St Patrick’s RC Schools.

The competition took place at The Barn at Leeds Road Playing Fields.

The event was won by a team from Fixby Junior School.

It was organised by Kirklees Sports Development to promote girls’ football and help establish a girls’ football club at Deighton Arena.
