DEVELOPERS have been given the go-ahead to convert a former dyehouse into homes.

Huddersfield architects One 17AD want to turn derelict industrial buildings and stables at Tolson Farm, off Armitage Road, Armitage Bridge, into six houses.

Members of Kirklees Council's planning sub-committee visited the site before delegating the decision to officers to approve - essentially giving the plans the go-ahead.

Councillors were asked to look at the area by residents worried about the risk of flooding from Dean Brook, access problems and the loss of a footpath and trees.

If issues surrounding the flooding cannot be addressed, the matter will return to councillors.

A report to the sub-committee commented that details of proposed bridge widening - to enhance access to the site - were inadequate and could lead to flooding downstream.

The site is in the Green Belt and is part of a conservation area wildlife corridor.
