IT’S been a striking feature on Huddersfield’s skyline for months.

But the giant crane used in the early construction stages of Kirklees College has been dismantled.

And the other is due to come down in May with confirmation that the £58m project is now three weeks ahead of schedule.

Allenbuild construction manager Daryl Jackson, who is in charge of the site, said: “Over the next few weeks people will see the external cladding and windows go on the multi-block.”

There are about 140 workers on site each day – but that figure will soar to as many as 300 once tradesmen such as plumbers, electricians, joiners and painters and decorators get involved.
