A PERSISTENT burglar has been locked up after he was caught climbing a ladder to try to break into a Huddersfield house.

Kris Woods, of Longfield Avenue in Golcar, was jailed for two-and-a-half years by a judge at Bradford Crown Court under the ‘three strikes’ rule.

Police were called when the 20-year-old was seen trying to get in to an empty house on New Hey Road in Oakes through a rear window on December 13.

Officers chased and arrested him. A ladder was later found at the scene.

The offence was the third similar crime for which Woods was convicted, meaning he automatically faced jail.

Kirklees inspector Dave Stainthorpe said: “Tackling burglary is a priority for police in Kirklees and we are acutely aware of the personal effect it can have on the victim.

“It is vital that we remove prolific offenders from the community and put the fear of crime straight back on those who commit it.

“If you involve yourself in burglary, this will ultimately be the outcome.

“I am pleased with the sentence handed down to Woods and hope it sends out a clear message to anyone else considering doing the same.”
