A COUPLE who met on a hospital ward have celebrated 60 years of happy marriage.

Roy Thompson was a patient at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary when he fell for his nurse Pamela, who later became his wife.

Diamond couple Roy, 81, and Pamela, 79, had a party with friends and family at Pennine Manor Hotel to celebrate their wedding anniversary.

They were both delighted to receive a card from the Queen congratulating them.

Proud parents Roy and Pamela had seven sons and one daughter.

They also have 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Roy worked as an engineer at David Brown tractors for many years.

While Pamela, originally from Bradford, left nursing to look after their family.

The grandparents like going out for meals together and Pamela is a keen knitter.

Pamela said their long and successful marriage was down to “give and take.”
