ZUMBA enthusiasts moved and grooved to raise charity cash.

An hour long dance class was held yesterday on the cricket field on Parkwood Road in Golcar to raise money for charity. Zumba instructor Jana Shirley, 27, and her class of 45 raised £513 for Kirkwood Hospice.

Jana’s grandfather spent time in the hospice after he contracted lung cancer.

She said: “They really helped him and they do amazing work. We wanted to give something back because if it wasn’t for them, his time could have been much harder.

“The day was a success and we put a marquee up so that people mainly stayed dry.’’

A raffle also helped to raise the final sum.

Jana has been teaching the Latin-inspired dance class since it was brought to the UK in 2007 and she now runs classes up to seven times a week at Longwood Mechanics Hall, Slaithwaite Methodist Church and Milnsbridge Village Hall.

New Zumba instructor Natalie Wood also joined Jana to help teach the aerobic dance class.
