AN AMATEUR footballer is set to take his soccer skills overseas.
Brighouse Town striker, Josh Martin, has been selected to play for an American university.
The 18-year-old, who scored 10 goals in 12 games last season before getting injured, is jetting out to Tenessee Wesleyan College to take up a place on their soccer team.
Josh, who once tried out for Huddersfield Town and now works part-time as the Terriers’ assistant kit man, said he had scooped the four-year soccer scholarship through an intermediary company called Sporting Chance USA.
“I decided I didn’t want to go to university in England,’’ he said.
“With the fees going up to £9,000 I thought I would look over there.
“I’ve never been to the USA before so I’m really excited but also a bit nervous.”
The former Huddersfield New College student, who was on the books of Manchester United as a young boy, said he hoped the opportunity could boost his career.
