A MAN who was spotted by police driving erratically has been banned for drink-driving.

Gurman Randhawa, 21, was driving his Suzuki Swift when he was stopped by officers in Leeds Road, Huddersfield, shortly after midnight on June 9, Kirklees Magistrates’ were told yesterday.

Prosecutor Linda Fowler said officers stopped the car.

They could smell alcohol and conducted a roadside breath test. He was then arrested.

Further breath tests carried out at the police station showed he was nearly double the drink drive limit, with 69 microgrammes (mg) of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

Randhawa, of Handel Street, Golcar, told magistrates: “It was irresponsible and out of character. There is no excuse for it. I have let myself down.”

He admitted: “I am fully aware it was a stupid thing to do.”

Magistrates gave credit for his early guilty plea and banned Randhawa from driving for 18 months. It could be reduced by a quarter if he pays to complete a drink-driver rehabilitation course before a set date.
