Tributes have been paid to a Huddersfield man who lost his battle with cancer.

Dad of one Chris Chambers, 38, died at the weekend after a determined battle against throat and mouth cancer which was diagnosed little over a year ago.

News of his death came from his daughter via Chris’s own Facebook page, on which he had charted his daily fight against the disease.

She said: “Hi all this is Chris Chambers' daughter, this is not easy for me but he asked me to do this. Sadly Chris passed away last night peacefully in his sleep, thank u to u all for your support through this difficult time u have all been amazing my dad was blessed to have such good friends”.

Earlier this month former Royds Hall school pals rallied round to support their friend.

They held a reunion at Huddersfield’s Rock Cafe to support Chris and his daughter.

Chris, 38, of Golcar was diagnosed with throat and mouth cancer 12 months ago after a routine dentist check-up alerted him to abnormalities.

But despite going straight to his doctors and subsequently having treatment which saw a section of his tongue removed, the cancer had spread.

One of his friends Chris Karolczuk helped organise the reunion.

He said: “Me and Chris have known each other since we were 11 and went to Royds Hall together.

“When we found out he had cancer it was a huge shock to everyone and we did what we could to support him.

“He had chemo but the surgeons found tumours in his neck and five months ago he was given the devastating news that the cancer is terminal”.

Chris had been living with his mum in Golcar but then moved to Kirkwood Hospice where he lost his fight for life.

He kept posting details of his condition on his Facebook page and after the reunion said: “Just want to express my gratitude and thanks to everyone involved and everyone who turned up last night for the Royds Hall reunion, you all made it what it was. A top night and money raised for people who really need it. Thank you thank you thank you. xxx”.
