A POWER company has promised to get to the bottom of problems in Golcar.

There have been 27 power cuts in a little over two years and it remains a mystery.

Many residents on the Banks Road estate and Swallow Lane have been suffering power cuts at monthly – sometimes weekly – intervals since September 2007.

And while the majority of cuts last 30 minutes, longer cuts occur a couple times every year.

The latest cut began on May 5 at 5pm and lasted until 2am the next day.

Football fan William Kilner, 29, of Banks Road (inset), said the power cut stopped him watching this season’s Champions League Final between Barcelona and Milan – and last year’s FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Everton.

Mr Kilner said: “I’ve never been anywhere where power cuts are this often. This is a recurring bane of our lives.

“There’s obviously some underlying problem they can’t fix.

“It’s below the level of service it should be and questions need to be asked to the electricity company as to why this is happening on a regular basis. I’ve spent more time speaking to YEDL than to the Mrs!

“When you get home from work you want to relax, have a proper meal and watch some TV and you can’t do that.”

Michael Sargood, a spokesman for CE Electric UK, apologised for the disruption in the Banks Road area and said that the company was investigating.

He said: “We have looked into the power cut history for the Banks Road area and confirm that there have been 27 separate incidences since September 2007.

“We are carrying out further investigations to better understand the underlying cause of the problem and come up with proposals for improving the service forwarding future.

“We appreciate the disruption that power cuts can cause and would like to thank local residents for raising this matter with us”.
