YOUNG footballers gave up their time to pack bags for Christmas shoppers to raise cash for children with cancer.

Thirteen boys from Golcar United under 10s raised money at Tesco in Huddersfield in memory of a teenage footballer who died of liver cancer.

The cash will go to the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in memory of Charlie White, 15, who played for Scissett FC.

Charlie, of Kirkburton, died in April.

The manager of Golcar United, Nick Ansley, is a relative and the boys jumped at the chance to help.

Nick’s wife Katrina, the club secretary, said: “It was a very touching gesture from the boys.

“They worked very hard packing bags.

“We held a bag-packing last year to pay for the boys’ Christmas party but they didn’t miss out this year. They still had a party as a reward for what they’ve done.”
