AN 83-YEAR-OLD woman was taken to hospital after an assault by two youths.

The attack happened on the banks of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal in Golcar.

The woman was hurt at about 4pm last Monday, after she was approached by two teenagers.

Both teenagers asked her for money and then cycled off with a third youth when she declined.

The youths appeared on the other side of the canal and one of the group began shouting abuse.

He then threw a stone which hit the woman above the eye, causing a cut. They then all fled the scene heading past the Golcar Socialist Club.

The victim received hospital treatment for the cut and was left shaken by the incident.

The three teenagers were all described as white youths and one was believed to be carrying fishing tackle.

Pc Ian Yates of the Valleys Neighbourhood Policing team, said: “This was a nasty incident in which a vulnerable member of our community has been assaulted and it is fortunate she was not more seriously injured.

“It is important we trace these three suspects as soon as possible and anyone who saw what happened of may have information about those responsible.” Anyone with information should contact Pc 433 Ian Yates at the Valleys NPT on 01484 436855 or CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
