A LOCKWOOD couple have celebrated their golden wedding.

Douglas and Peggy Holroyd celebrated their special day with family and friends at the Woodman Inn, in Thunderbridge.

The couple were married at Thornton Lodge Methodist Chapel on October 17, 1959.

They met when butcher Douglas was delivering meat to a neighbour of his future wife and the pair struck up a conversation.

The couple have lived at Lockwood for all of their married life.

Mr Holroyd worked for the well-known family firm Holroyds butchers, which was based on Manchester Road.

When the shop closed, he went into engineering and worked for Brook Motors.

He later became a postman working in Huddersfield before returning to the firm, where he worked in quality control for more than 30 years.

Mrs Holroyd worked as a mender at Shires Mill based at Milnsbridge, then at Hollingworth Wood in Lockwood.

The couple have two children and twin grandsons Ben and Jordan.

Mrs Holroyd is a keen keep-fit fan while her husband enjoys gardening and working on his car.
