A COUPLE who met through work have just celebrated their golden wedding.

Brian and Audrey Cartwright, of Little Lane, Wooldale, met at Graham and Potts fine worsted manufacturers in New Mill.

Mrs Cartwright, now 77, worked in the office and Mr Cartwright, 73, was auditing the company while he worked for accountants Armitage and Norton.

Mrs Cartwright spent 12 years at the firm and later worked at Wooldale Co-op for 20 years.

After National Service, Mr Cartwright worked at Dobroyd Mills, Jackson Bridge, followed by John Woodheads in Thongsbridge, where he became a director.

He then joined the John Lewis Partnership and spent 12 years as a wool buyer.

In his younger days he played football for the Old Holmevalians and cricket for Scholes. He was president of the cricket club for 16 years.

The couple enjoy walking and have spent many holidays in Austria.

Now Mr Cartwright enjoys bowling with the New Mill club and gardening. He is also a member of New Mill Probus Club.

Mrs Cartwright used to be a member of New Mill Church ladies' group.

The couple have three children and five grandchildren.
