A FARMING couple who met at school, have celebrated their golden wedding.

George and Elsie Gill, who live at Lane Head Farm, Holme, at the foot of Holme Moss, met when they were pupils at Nab School, Holmfirth.

The couple originally worked in textiles at W H and J Barber, Holmfirth.

Mrs Gill, 72, went on to become caretaker at Holme Infants School for 22 years.

The couple bought the sheep farm in 1964, which they worked in addition to their jobs.

Mr Gill, 71, was employed in the textile industry throughout his working life.

He was a finisher at Moorbrook's, New Mill, and a variety of other firms in Huddersfield and Bradford, in addition to keeping the farm going.

Mr Gill said: "It was very hard work but if you like doing something it does not make it hard work does it?"

The farm is now run by their son Nicholas.

Mrs Gill regularly attends St Joseph's Church, Moldgreen and is a member of the Union of Catholic Mothers.

The couple have three children, a daughter and two sons, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

They celebrated their anniversary with a family meal.
