A BISHOP will drop by when a Huddersfield church celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Events to mark the golden jubilee at St Francis' Church, Fixby, are being held this weekend. The Bishop of Wakefield, the Rt Rev Stephen Platten, will be at a special eucharist on Saturday at 6pm.

The church was built to serve a population which greatly increased after the Second World War.

Church leaders paid £6,000 for the building at the corner of Fixby Road and Broomfield Road.

It now accommodates groups such as Weight Watchers, Guides and Brownies.

A flower festival opens at the church tomorrow at 7pm and continues on Saturday, from 10am to 4pm. A harvest service will be held on Sunday from 10am.
