OAKES couple Derek and Iris Perkins celebrated their golden wedding with a party at Outlane Golf Club.
Mr and Mrs Perkins married at St John’s Church, Penistone,and spent their honeymoon in London.
Mr Perkins met his future wife at a dance at Penistone Drill Hall on November 19, 1954.
He worked as an engineer, spending 30 years at English Drilling Equipment on Lindley Moor Road and then later at Wilbest Engineering in Oakes.
Mrs Perkins was employed at WC Holmes’ engineering firm, initially as a typist and then as secretary to the managing director. She later worked as a receptionist for Midlothian Garage on Leeds Road.
The couple have lived in Cornfield Avenue, Oakes, for 42 years. They have two children and two grandchildren.
The couple are members of Outlane Golf Club and play bowls at Lindley Liberal Club, where Mr Perkins also enjoys a game of snooker.
