A GOLDEN couple have always ‘stuck together through thick and thin’. June and Sidney Newton, of Newsome, are celebrating 50 years of happy marriage.
June, 68, told the Examiner she and Sidney had always looked after each other.
The grandmother-of-two said: “Sidney had a triple heart bypass about eleven years ago. He’s been to hospital 65 times because he’s quite ill with a lot of things like angina and diabetes.
“I stay with him all the time and make sure he’s comfortable. We stick together through thick and thin.”
The couple married at Huddersfield Parish Church on Byram Street.
Sidney, 71, served in the royal artillery and later became a wagon driver. June was a house- keeper at St Joseph’s RC Church on Kings Mill Lane.
They have a son, Stephen, and grandchildren James, 16 and Alexia 10.
