IT was a double cause for celebration on New Year’s Eve for Margaret and David Wilson.

The Lepton couple celebrated 50 years of marriage as well as the start of 2011.

Mr and Mrs Wilson, of Manor Park Way, marked the event at the home of their only daughter with a family party including their two grandchildren.

Mr and Mrs Wilson, met at a dance at Greenhead Masonic Hall, but were educated at the same school in Crosland Moor and played together as children. They married at Christ Church, Moldgreen.

Mr Wilson, 71, was a partner in a painting and decorating business for 35 years.

Mrs Wilson, 70, started work as a mender but for the last 18 years of her working life was in the office at the former Graham’s builders merchants on Leeds Road.

Mr Wilson enjoys painting watercolours as a hobby and is a member of Hall Bower Arts Society.

Mrs Wilson enjoyed racquet sports and is a member of Total Fitness gym at Waterloo. She also enjoys needlework, knitting and shopping.
