THE name of a young man killed in a tragedy will live on in a charity fundraising golf tournament.

And each year the money raised by the Paul Keegan Memorial Trophy will go to the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust.

The Trust aims to build a hospice for children at Brackenhall.

The planning application is set to be decided at Huddersfield Planning Committee on May 10.

Paul, 22, of Birkby, was with friends camping in the Lake District when he fell down a ravine last April.

A collection at his funeral and a fundraising raffle and auction at the Spink's Nest pub in Birkby where he was a regular raised almost £7,000 for the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust.

He loved children which is why his family chose the Trust.

Paul's father, Paddy, was the captain at Longley Park Golf Club last year.

The captain of Crosland Heath Golf Club at Crosland Hill, Craig McCreadie, suggested the idea of the trophy and he organised the day with Crosland Heath secretary, Steve Robinson.

The event was held at Crosland Heath Golf Club earlier this month and featured 10 teams from the Huddersfield and Halifax Union of Golf Clubs.

The teams came from Crosland Heath, Longley Park, Bradley Park, Dewsbury, Halifax, Huddersfield, Meltham and Marsden golf clubs along with The Wednesday Society which plays at different clubs each week.

The cup was won by Meltham Golf Club so next year's event will be held there.
