WILLIAM and Kate, Elvis and even Gonzo from the Muppet Show were spotted in the Colne Valley at the weekend – they all popped up in the second annual Golcar Scarecrow Festival on Saturday when 25 strawmen were put up around the village as part of the event.

This year’s royal-themed festival included a model of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on a Thames barge on Woodroyd and Elvis – the King of rock ’n’ roll – on Banks Crescent.

Leymoor Road hosted the Queen of Clean, along with Gonzo from the Muppet Show. Some 230 people took part in the hunt for all 25 scarecrows, picking up their maps from Golcar Scout and Community Centre on Manor Road.

The festival was organised by 4th Huddersfield Golcar Scout Group. Assistant leader Daniel Haigh said:“It went very well, we had a lot of people taking part. It’s a way to get the community involved in another event alongside Golcar Lily Day. It was a pleasant site when I woke up in the morning and saw the sun was shining.”
