HUDDERSFIELD is one of the top 10 places in the country to live, says a survey.

The study by the Royal Bank of Scotland ranks the town seventh in Britain for living the good life on a budget.

Researchers compiled the list of towns where good schools, restaurants and shops are accompanied by affordable housing.

Beverley in East Yorkshire came out on top.

In Huddersfield the average house costs £131,000.

RBS spokesman Harry Keogh said: “The aim of our survey is to show people that a wealthy lifestyle is a great deal more accessible than they may realise.

“Huddersfield has all the ingredients to allow people to enjoy the good life at a relatively affordable price.

“It is an increasingly attractive place to live because of the many developments planned for the town.

“Huddersfield also has beautiful Victorian architecture, diverse shops and good links to the M62 and M1.”

The survey took into account the presence of top schools, expensive restaurants, theatres, art galleries, museums and coffee bars.

Hotels, spas, car dealerships and sports facilities were also considered to be things which well-off people enjoy.
