A GOOD Samaritan intervened in a robbery at Deighton railway station after a man was punched several times in the face.

Now detectives investigating the robbery at the station have released two CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to.

The robbery happened when a 29-year-old man was on a train approaching Deighton, travelling from Leeds to Huddersfield at around 11.05pm on June 26.

He was approached by two men who attacked him before they both attempted to flee with his iPad.

The victim gave chase but a passenger managed to catch one of the men, retrieve the iPad and detain the suspect until officers arrived.

Detective Constable Gary Heseltine, investigating for British Transport Police, said: “The victim had been sat using his iPad 3 on the train. As the train pulled into Deighton station two men who had been sitting opposite him jumped up.

“One of the men then punched him in the face while we believe the other then snatched his iPad.

“As both men then jumped off the train and attempted to flee, remarkably, a passenger on the train gave chase and detained one of the men and retrieved the iPad.

“The victim was left with bruising and swelling to his face and is understandably shaken following his ordeal.

“Thanks to the quick-thinking actions of the passenger who intervened, one man was arrested at the station. However we’d still like to speak to anyone who can identify the man pictured who we believe may be able to help with inquiries.”

A 25-year-old local man was arrested at the station by British Transport Police (BTP) and is on bail until next Wednesday, July 18.
