A GOOD Samaritan provided medical help for a trio of trapped motorists after a smash in Kirkburton.

The man, believed to be a member of Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team, helped after the two-car collision outside the White Swan pub on Penistone Road just after 6pm yesterday evening.

A Toyota Celica and a small Volkswagen were in collision.

The Samaritan, who was driving behind one of the vehicles, went to help the trapped motorists and advised members of the public how to help until emergency services arrived.

Fire crews from Huddersfield cut the roof from the cars to free the trapped people. A middle-aged couple were freed from the Celica and a woman in her 30s from the VW.

All were believed to be suffering from neck injuries and were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Fire service Watch Manager Andy Farrell said: "We would like to say thank you to the man who helped the people in the cars."
