FIVE long-standing staff at Huddersfield New College said their final goodbye yesterday.

The longest serving was head of health and social care Madelaine Goodwin, who has worked at the college for 39 years.

Also retiring was maths and IT teacher and manager Les Granger (38 years), physics teacher Harvey Cole (35 years), biology teacher Steve Dunkeyson (35 years) and biology teacher Vivien Shaw (27 years).

Miss Goodwin, of Salendine Nook, enjoys the theatre, concerts, gardening and reading.

She now hopes to travel, brush up on her French and Spanish and buy a puppy.

Vivien Shaw, who is married with two children and lives in Salendine Nook, plans to devote time to the Cubs Scouts as a new leader.

Mr Dunkeyson, of Slaithwaite, who is married with three children, enjoys running, DIY and building model railways. He plans to enjoy his hobbies on a full-time basis and to travel, starting with a trip to Tanzania.

Mr Cole, of Marsh, is married and has three children. He enjoys sketching, calligraphy and Morris dancing.

Mr Granger, who lives in the Colne Valley, is married and plans to devote time to walking in Scotland and the Northern Isles.
