A YOUNG woman has returned from a 62-mile jungle trek in Thailand.

Grace Chadwick, 19, completed the Trek for Treatment last month.

Her efforts raised £1,800 for the Leprosy Mission, which operates clinics and training centres for victims of the disease in Thailand.

Grace, of Blacksmiths Fold, Almondbury, trekked through the jungle and mountains of western Thailand, staying overnight in tents and bamboo huts.

Pupils at her former school, Almondbury Junior, sponsored Grace to the tune of £1,000.

They raised the money with a treasure hunt.

Grace raised money herself, by staging a bonfire at her home and asking for money in place of Christmas presents from family and friends.

She was inspired to raise money for the charity after her father, David, completed a sponsored cycle ride in India.

Grace, who is working as a home care assistant, is a former pupil of Greenhead College and Almondbury High School.

She aims to study physiotherapy at university next year.
