FORMER Huddersfield Technical College student James Britton has landed a part in a Channel 4 sketch show.

The 24-year-old is one of the main characters in Slaterwood, a parody of life in Hollywood.

James Britton plays several characters in the show which features as part of Channel 4’s Comedy Lab series.

He landed the part just two days after graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University.

James filmed the programme in May and it will air on August 28 at 11.15pm.

He said: “I was fortunate to get the part so quickly out of university, I finished my graduation show and two days later I was filming for Channel 4.

“Fingers crossed it will go on to become a regular series and I become a part of that.

“I didn’t want to get carried away as being an actor can be tough, but it was such a surreal moment to be on a television set.

“It’s the first TV work I’ve done, in the past all my experience has been in theatre.

“But it was a great experience and one I’d love to do again.”

James, from Cleckheaton, was a pupil at Huddersfield Technical College where he completed a national diploma.

But it was during his graduation show when he was spotted by a casting director that led to the role.

Slaterwood is written by Peter Slater, who appeared in Phoenix Nights, New Street Law and Saxondale.

It features crazy cops, heroes, villains and assorted weird, wonderful and silly comic creations.

James added: “Its a brand new sketch show and is along the lines of Little Britain and Mitchell and Webb and I think it’s very funny.

“Hopefully it will be a stepping stone to something bigger and better.

“The show is based on Peter Slater’s take on Hollywood and British TV, it’s very tongue in cheek.

“I play a series of characters, six or seven of them which is good because I get to broaden my experience even more.”

James is currently getting even more experience writing and directing which is helping to develop his creativity.
