A CHOIR from Huddersfield is to star in a major TV advert.

Singers with Huddersfield People's Choir joined voices with people from four other choirs for the advert to publicise this year's Christmas Millionaire Maker game.

The advert - filmed at Blackpool's Grand Theatre and screened for the first time on Wednesday - features carols with a new lyrical twist to push the big money game.

The choirs were chosen for the TV ad because they have received lottery money.

Eleven members of Huddersfield People's Choir went to the seaside resort for the filming.

Choir member John Habron, from Marsh, said: "It was a grand day out. We all enjoyed ourselves immensely and are looking forward to seeing the ad."

His choir practices weekly at St Thomas's Church in Longroyd Bridge.

And it's a group with a difference - for its members sing for their own enjoyment, putting on public performances only rarely.

Lottery organisers Camelot have promised that one millionaire will be made for every million lottery tickets sold for the Christmas Eve draw.

On top of this, there will be another bumper jackpot of just over £2m.

Camelot's commercial director Phil Smith said: "They were wonderful, absolute professionals who really got into the spirit of Christmas - even though it was a damp autumn day in Blackpool.

"They recorded hundreds of takes and every time put all their energy into making it look and sound perfect. It's a great advert that I hope people will enjoy.

"Winning the jackpot and becoming a millionaire is the sort of Christmas present we all dream about. Christmas Millionaire Maker will make that dream come true for some."

The Grand Theatre in Blackpool has benefited from more than £1m of lottery grants from Arts Council England and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Tickets for the Christmas Millionaire Maker game cost £5 and are on sale at National Lottery retailers now.
