A NEW gala took place at a new site in Honley this weekend.

The Feast Gala, replacing the Fun Day, had hundreds of visitors on Sunday afternoon.

For several years the annual Fun Day took place on Magdale Field, owned and managed by Honley Village Community Trust.

Trust deputy secretary John Murray said: "The event always incurred costs, particularly if the weather was bad. It often seemed to rain!"

This year the Trust's new event took place in and around the village hall, offering shelter and facilities.

The afternoon included stalls, food and a ten-metre-high climbing wall.

There was also a search for Honley stars with a Pop Idol-style contest.

Yorkshire Traction Honley Band accompanied the annual Honley Sing, led by the Rev David Barnes, vicar of St Mary's.

The 6th Holme Valley Scouts, whose headquarters are next door to the village hall, hosted an exhibition of scouting.

The event was supported by Honley Law Practice.
