ORGANISATIONS with ideas to improve the local environment are reminded to submit their bids for grant funding.

The Strategic Environment Grant Fund is for projects which help to protect and enhance the environment for the benefit of the people of Kirklees.

The purpose of the fund is to contribute to the core costs of environmental organisations operating in the Kirklees district and to support larger environmental projects which meet one or more of these objectives:

Wildlife habitat creation and protection

Reducing waste and pollution

Promoting the use of the countryside

Raising awareness of environmental issues

Contributing to wider sustainability issues

Improving access to the countryside

Working towards a green network in Kirklees.

Grants are available from £1,501 up to £6,000.

If applicants make a special case, grants of up to £10,000 may be considered, depending on the availability of funds and the level of demand.

All grant-aided groups have to be formally constituted, with people designated to manage the project and look after the funds.

It is also necessary to have a bank account.

Details are available from Kirklees Council.
