Two house builders have got a final sign off for 94 houses in Golcar.

Yesterday Barratt and David Wilson Homes were given consent for reserved matters – landscape, layout and scale – to build on land off Grange Road and Thorpe Green Drive, having already secured the principle to build earlier this year.

Resident Gordon Bray said it was wrong for the council to pretend the residents of the new houses would not use Parkwood Road and he called for highway improvements.

Mark Jones, of Barratt, said there would be 16 affordable homes, £232,000 for education contribution and £88,000 for public open space.

Changes have been made to the plans with 94 homes instead of 96, 25 houses will access it from Grange Road due to its poor sight lines on to Leymoor Road, and the remainder will use Thorpe Green Drive.

The plan is expected to bring £300,000 in New Homes Bonus for Kirklees Council, which is a government incentive for new houses.

Clr Paul Kane moved approval with delegation to officers to secure agreement that houses near to existing stone-built homes to also have stone-style elevations.
