GREEN politicians are usually calling for less car use – but Kirklees Green Party want MORE cars for police in rural areas.
The Green Party wants Police Community Support Officers in rural areas to have more cars to make their jobs easier.
Often, they have to travel between far-flung villages on public transport, which can be time consuming.
Kirkburton Green Party spokeswoman Michelle Atkinson said: “This can mean PCSOs are spending less time visibly patrolling in the community and more time waiting for buses.
“As the PCSOs will not be involved in emergencies, the vehicles they use could be low emission or hybrid vehicles with low fuel costs.”
Green Party councillor Derek Hardcastle, also of Kirkburton, said: “The effectiveness of the PCSOs would clearly be enhanced.”
Police are giving the issue consideration.
