A VETERAN green campaigner has been honoured for his voluntary work.

Retired teacher Peter Kirkham was chairman of the Colne Valley Society for 10 years.

Now it has given him its annual award.

As part of the heritage and conservation group, Mr Kirkham took part in many footpath clearances. He also wrote one of the society's best-selling booklets.

He was presented with the Geoff Hutchinson Award by Mr Hutchinson's widow, Jean.

It is a trophy which every year marks the exceptional efforts of an environmental worker.

Society chairman Glenda Oldroyd praised Mr Kirkham's efforts at a presentation ceremony at Slaithwaite Civic Hall.
