SCIENCE students from Greenhead College triumphed in a chemistry contest.

Dan Best, Fern Hopkinson and Stephen West won this year’s heat of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Schools Analyst Competition at Huddersfield University.

They beat students from sixth forms including Bradford Girls’ Grammar, Wakefield Girls’ High, Heckmondwike Grammar, and North Halifax Grammar.

The students won book tokens, plus £50 for their college. They also have a place in the finals at the University of Plymouth on June 29 and 30.

During the competition, the students had to test a health potion to see if the mixture of vitamin C and iron was genuine or if it was diluted with sodium chloride.

The tests they used were identical to those used in a commercial science laboratory.

The Greenhead team won on speed, precision and clarity.
