MEMBERS of the Greenhead Park Nordic Walking group are celebrating the group’s first birthday.

And they plan to mark the occasion with a fun session open to everyone to join on Friday January 11, from 10am.

To get involved all you need to do is to come prepared to try out this popular sport – but wear a hat of any kind!

The group will be asking those who join the fun to make a small donation of at least £1, which will be collected to support a local charity.

For those trying out the sport for the first time there will be a short technique session at 10am.

Places for the session must be booked with Diane Clifford on 07814 387420.

After the introduction all can join the walk around the Park until 11.30am and then enjoy a bit of a chat over tea and birthday cake.

The Greenhead Park Nordic Walkers have been meeting each week for a year and there are currently around 30 regular members of the group.

The group meets at the café at the top of the park each Friday at 10.30am, opposite the tennis courts.

Equipment is available to hire for a minimal charge of just £1 per session.

New walkers are welcome and can arrange for an introductory session to learn how to use the equipment and find out about the Nordic style technique by contacting Diane.
