A MINI marathon will be held in Greenhead Park tomorrow to mark the 100th birthday of Sikh marathon man Bhai Fauja Singh.

And among the participants will be marathon runner Ajit Singh, from Deighton, who is 80. The event will be opened by the Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Andrew Palfreeman and all monies raised will go to his charity.

Mr Ajit Singh said: “We could not let this opportunity pass without marking it with some kind of community event.

“I have trained and raced alongside Bhai Fauja Singh and I know how humble he is and never wants a fuss, but he is also an inspiration to the world and we are so proud of him.”

The run is being organised by Huddersfield’s Sikh community. They aim to attract participants from all backgrounds.

Bhai Fauja Singh is still running half marathons at the age of 100 and is sponsored by Adidas UK. He hopes to promote his faith and lifestyle as well as inspiring young people through his running.
